Dennis Whigham is a Senior Botanist at the Smithsonian Institution where he has studied the ecology of plants for almost 40 years. He is a member of the Orchid Specialist group of IUCN and his interests in native orchids and their plight lead to the establishment of the North American Orchid Conservation Center NAOCC (email WhighamD@si.edu).
